Summer Olympics @ your library
Summer is almost here and the Youth and Children’s Services have a great summer program lined up. This summer, your kids can enjoy many different programs to commemorate the Summer Olympic Games which will be held in China this August.
On July 5th from10:00 to noon, we will be having our official opening ceremony. Children are invited to bring a white T-shirt to decorate with Olympic symbols, then register for programs and join a team. Children will earn points for their team through the reading program and at the end of the summer, the winning team will receive a gold metal with a prize.
This summer we will participate in the LOL (Laugh Out Loud) Reading Program sponsored by the TD Bank to promote reading fun. As kids read books this summer, they will earn points for their team as well as entry ballots for a chance to win their own prizes. These prizes include Via Rail round trip tickets to Toronto for 4, China Gate $20 gift certificate, Quinte Mall $20 gift certificate, MacDonald’s gift certificate for 4, Casa Loma: Free admission tickets for 4, and a surprise package. So the more kids read, the more entry ballots they get!
Throughout the summer, there will be many different programs for children and teens. On Tuesdays, children age 3 to 6 can enjoy special storytimes with a different theme each week. Programs for 7 to 11 year olds will be Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 pm. These programs include art, poetry, sports, and drama workshops. The Write Way Program
The Belleville Public Library and John M. Parrott Art Gallery is proud to introduce The Write Way hosted by Gabrielle Loesch in cooperation with the Reader’s Advisory Department. Gabrielle was born a French national that has traveled extensively beginning as a child with her parents. She began writing in 2002 and shortly after created the Write Way in France along the Cote d’Azur where her family resides. From that original group produced many successes and some writers have been published in newspapers, and had their work produced in theatres.
This will be an innovative forum which will aim to create a safe and confidential environment for writers so they may learn from their peers, improve their writing and develop the skills required to give and accept constructive criticism. Meetings begin on June 16th, 2008 starting at 6:00pm. Then each consecutive meeting will take place on the third Monday of each month at the same time.
The program requires advanced registration as space is limited and is group is geared towards those individuals that are serious about writing.
