Earth Day Program

April 21, 2008 at 10:47 am (Library Programs)

The Children’s Services will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday April 25th with a Look-a-likes Workshop.  Children ages 6 and up will be shown how to create a piece of art using recycled materials and other stuff.   The programs are for children ages 6-11at 10:00 am and for teens at 1:00 pm.  Pre-registration is required.

If you are familiar with the “Look-a-likes” books by Joan Steiner you have probably been amazed at what you saw.  These books include scenic illustrations made up of recycled materials.  You think you see a picture of a simple kitchen, but when you look closely, you see that the chairs are made of bread sticks, the microwave is a wallet and the stove is actually a walkman.  The more you look, the more you see.  It is amazing what materials you can use to make a beautiful creation.

Along with the craft, there will be a guest speaker, Marvin Tucker from Quinte Waste Solutions who will talk about the importance of recycling and how it saves the earth.

If you are interested, please pre-register at the Library or call 613-968-6731ext. 2268.
