Freedom to Read: February 25 -March 3,2007
“Freedom to read can never be taken for granted. Even in Canada, a free country by world standards, books and magazines are banned at the border. Books are removed form the shelves in Canadian libraries, schools and bookstories every day. Free speech on the Internet is under attack. Few of these stories make headlines, but they affect the right of Canadians to decide for themselves what they choose to read.” www.freedomtoread.ca
The BPL has a book display on banned or challenged books for children, teens and adults. Please come in to grab one and enjoy your Freedom to Read.
Teen Discussion Group: Censorship – Thursdays in February 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Meet each Thursday in February to hear excerpts from the most controversial books of both your parent’s time and your own. After the reading, we will exchange opinions, thoughts and feelings in an open discussion group.

You and your teens are invited to take the “Banned Book Challenge” starting the week of Freedom to Read. Details will be outlined at Fahrenheit 451: Banned Book Blog. (http://www.pelhamlibrary.blogspot.com). There are also great links to banned and challenged book sites and other censorship issues.
