Word of the Week:

November 22, 2006 at 2:51 pm (Word of the Week)

lethologica: the inability to remember a word or to put your finger on the right word
(www.dictionary.com)

etymology:

The word ‘Lethologica’ is derived from the Greek language – letho (forgetfulness) and logos (word). ‘Letho’ originates from Greek mythology, in that the Lethe (pronounced ‘LEETH-ee’) was one of the rivers that flowed through the realm of Hades. Called the River of Oblivion, the shades of the dead were forced to drink from this river in order to forget their past lives on earth.  (http://wikipedia.org/)

Online Photo Sharing Sites

November 1, 2006 at 3:52 pm (Technology)

Looking for an easy way to organize and make backups of your digital photographs? Tired of emailing huge files in order to share your photos with your family and friends? You might want to investigate some of these free photo hosting websites.

Flickr, which is owned by Yahoo! is one of the most popular photo sharing sites right now.  You can organize your images into sets (like albums), tag them with subjects, and set varying levels of permission – ie. certain images may be visible only to friends, only to family, or made public. You can easily share your photos by adding contacts, joining communities and can easily send your loved ones a simple link so they can view your photos online. It’s free for a certain amount of uploading each month and for a certain number of photos overall, or you can pay $24.95 a year for extra benefits.

Photobucket is another popular photo sharing site which also allows you to share video.  It also works easily with MySpace. It’s also free, and like Flickr, you can pay $25 a year for the extra features.

Shutterfly is one of the other major players on the photo sharing scene.  Once again, it’s free, though they do sell prints, cards, calendars, etc. and will try to entice you to buy them.

Other companies, such as Kodak, Black’s and Future Shop, and will allow you to upload and share photos, but will delete after a certain period if you don’t order any prints from them.

Read this Wikipedia article  to find out about other photo sharing options and the differences between them.
