Is there a book you want that we don’t own?

Did you know that we can borrow books from other libraries if there is something you want that we don’t have?

Really? You can get books from other libraries?

Yes, we can borrow books from other libraries on your behalf. This process is called interlibrary loan, and is done through the Information Services desk on the 2nd floor of the library or call us at (613) 968-6731 x2237. You will need a valid library card to place the request.

How long does it take?

To get a book from Quinte West, it usually takes about a week. Sometimes two weeks. To get books from other libraries in the province, it may take up to 4-6 weeks.

How much does it cost?

It is usually free. Usually because some university libraries do charge a fee from $10-$20. Most books can be obtained without charge, however, and we will always be sure that you agree to any charges that may be involved.

Can you get movies and CDs as well?

We can try. Many libraries do not lend out their CD and movie collections, so it can be difficult to get these items in.

***A note on fiction books through interlibrary loan:

In order to increase our collections, we have been purchasing fiction books for our library instead of ordering them through interlibrary loan. This does take a little longer, but the book will be available for other people who may wish to read it as well.

If there is a fiction book you would like us to add to our collection, you can fill out a paper form on your next visit, or you can do it online through our homepage or follow this link.

Unfortunately, we are unable to get new books (published within the last year), or books that are extremely popular for you through interlibrary loan. Please fill out book suggestion forms for those titles as well.
